Tutoring Questions

What subjects do you tutor?

Chris: Most comfortable with Middle School Math, Algebra 1 and 2, and Geometry. Can also tutor Pre-Calculus and other high school math classes.

Cindy: Most comfortable with Middle School Math, Algebra 1 and 2, Pre-Calculus, Analysis of Functions, and college-level math courses including Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and Liberal Arts Math.

If your class is not listed, feel free to reach out to see if we can help. There are many different math classes out there, so even if your class's title isn't here, we might still be able to work with you.

Unfortunately, neither one of us can tutor Statistics.

What do you charge and how do we pay?

Tutors with our backgrounds can easily charge $100 or more per hour, but we know that many families cannot afford that. Our pricing is very simple, and is the same no matter which of us is working with you:

Middle School (6th, 7th, 8th grade math): $40 per hour

High School (Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, etc.): $60 per hour

College courses: $80 per hour

If a session goes more than an hour, we will round up to the next half-hour. So, for example, if we meet for an hour and ten minutes, that would count as 1.5 hours.

Please note that if you wish to meet in person in the Miami or Upper Keys areas, we may charge more per hour to cover the cost of driving.

We will generate an invoice through Square and send it to you. You can pay with debit or credit card, and can save the card in the system if you wish to save time later. If you want to pay in cash, we can accept exact payment in cash, too.

Where are you located, and where do we meet?

We live in Homestead, Florida. We are willing to travel up to the Miami area and over to the Upper Keys, but as mentioned earlier, that may incur a higher rate to help cover the cost of traveling. If you're not in our area, we are still happy to offer tutoring virtually.

For various reasons, we do not tutor in people's homes, nor do we tutor in our home. We can meet virtually (via Google Meet) or in-person at a public location like a library.

If we are meeting in-person and the student is under the age of 16, we request that a responsible adult remain nearby for the duration of the tutoring session.

Can we request to work with one of you specifically?

Absolutely! We understand that personality fit is as important to tutoring as anything else. We know that sometimes girls might prefer to work with Cindy, or guys might prefer to work with Chris, or even vice-versa. You might have a session with Cindy and decide to try a session with Chris after to see if it's a better fit. Maybe your student is more comfortable with Cindy because they find Chris's size to be a little intimidating. (We promise he's not really an ogre! He's just the approximate size of one!)

Or maybe you find that you have no preference and are happy to work with either one of us. We're very agreeable.

And, if something comes up and your scheduled tutor can't make the session, we might be able to have the other person cover instead of having to reschedule if that's something you'd be okay with.

What will you cover during the tutoring session?

Whatever topics your student is covering in class. We do not have curriculum, so we rely on them to bring their books or worksheets or online assignments to work on. If they don't have an assignment and just need a lesson on a topic, we can work with that too.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, we ask that you try to notify us at least 90 minutes in advance. Two no-shows without advance notice may result in future appointments being declined.

We understand that, on occasions, extenuating circumstances can be out of your control. For example, if you're in an accident on the way, your first thought isn't going to be to contact the tutor! If a situation like this occurs, please notify us when you are able.

What kind of guarantees do you offer?

None.

Tutoring is not a magical fix for everything. (As much as we'd like it to be!) We are professionals and will do our best to help your student, but we cannot guarantee their success. Generally speaking, our clients do better in school, but sometimes, things don't improve. We cannot promise that they will go from low grades to A's. We hope they do...but it's not a guarantee.
